Digging.......no Victory just yet though

It's been nearly a week since my last post but that doesn't mean I haven't been working. I've gone down every other night (as I find my back is aching after one night) I've managed to clear quite a lot but I have had help ! My hubby (a complete hater of all things garden, except BBQ's) has come down and lent me his muscle.
And then I met another allotment neighbour who has a petrol strimmer on site and was happy to lend it to me ! He was so helpful with ideas and suggestions. It was the boost I needed. I've had some low moments when I thought I wouldn't be able to do it and that I'm out of my depth. But thanks to all my family, friends and followers that have assured me I can do it !
My compost bin also arrived today so I can't wait to take that down tomorrow and start composting. I've managed to clear enough area to dig the soil, the fork goes in cleanly and turns beautifully. I'm really pleased and hope that when it's cleared it'll be a nice little patch :)

this is after I've been lent the strimmer, the main work has been done off shot and we've started to move the mounds (3 by this point) to one location at the very back of the plot.

Rain...

So, I packed the family up into the car along with my new storage box and tools today..all set on clearing the thistles...only to be rained on. So now my box and tools look pretty lonely sat in the rain..but at least it's ready and waiting to go.

Welcome

Hello and welcome !

I got my very own allotment this week and I don't mind saying how excited I am ! I have been waiting years for this...literally years. As a youngster I was never interested in gardens, growing things or even veg (just ask my mum!) but since I got married in 2008 and whilst waiting to move into our new home I caught the bug. Maybe it was part of growing up, maybe it was wanting to feel like a 'proper' wife who provided for her family or maybe it was wanting a get away from todays hetic life.
My passion started small, a few houseplants here and there. But when we got our house in 2010 it grew and grew, much to my bank managers dismay. I've been growing in tubs in our back garden ever since...
What can you expect from me in this blog...total honesty ! I am starting from scratch...my patch is completely overgrown and needs a huge amount of work but I am not afraid of the challenge. I am sure I will make mistakes and learn from them (probably the hard way) and I will welcome any advice anyone has to offer.
 I want to show everyone that us 'gardeners' aren't all old, moany, nosy people. In fact the support I've had on site has been so positive already. My new neighbour is lovely, she told me that somewhere (in the hidden depths of my plot) that I have an apple tree & gooseberry bushes...shall be keeping them and making gooseberry wine.
I will eventually add a receipe section on here as my other longstanding passion is cooking. I will be using and storing all my crops no matter how big (or probably small) and using them for all the little ones I look after. They will also be making outings with me...which I'm sure will make for some humourous blogs too.
